U.S.VETS Peer Support and Outreach Program, Orange County

The Peer Support and Outreach Program is a preventative program designed to address social isolation, mental health, employment, housing, and healthcare needs aggravated by the global COVID-19 pandemic. The program is designed to outreach and connect veterans and families in the Orange County community, to services and resources, regardless of discharge status.

The Peer Support & Outreach team members are here to support veterans in the following areas:

  • Social Engagement Sessions
  • Linkage to Resources, including mental health, case management, employment, and women’s programs
  • Suicide Risk Assessment
  • Virtual Mental Health Seminars
  • Technical Assistance with Accessing Virtual Platforms

How We Help

Because veterans are more likely to suffer from social isolation and mental health concerns, our work focuses on the benefit of social connection while providing veterans with access to mental health support and services, including our own virtual events.

Enrollment begins with our peer support specialists. Through virtual or in-person sessions, peer support specialists work directly with veterans to assess their needs and connect them with mental health, employment and social support services within Orange County and the U.S.VETS network.

Through our virtual events, we provide mental health seminars and presentations on a wide range of topics relevant to our veterans, including the impact of social isolation, suicide prevention, emotional regulation, substance issues and more.

To ensure ease of use, we provide any necessary technical support our veterans need to access our seminar and engagement platforms – and ongoing engagement with a peer support specialist.

How can a peer assist?

Our team of Peer Support Specialists have lived experiences in military transition (VA education benefits, healthcare, and compensation), community-based programs, and have undergone formal training to help veterans face similar challenges.
